The operation of the 189 km Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung highway road will cut the travel time from Lampung to Palembang. Previously, the distance was taken in 10 hours but now it can be taken shorter to 3 hours.
Jokowi the President of the Republic of Indonesia also said the government will continue to build highway roads on Sumatra Island for 2,974 Km from Lampung to Aceh which is targeted to be completed in 2024.
The presence of the highway road is expected to create new centers of economic growth and facilitate production centers by building links between production centers (industrial zones, mining, plantations, tourism) and outlets (ports/airports) on the island of Sumatra.
The existence of this highway road will support the development of Indralaya Midtown Area, Waterfront City Bakauheni, and Panjang Port in Lampung and Tanjung Api Api Special Economic Zone (KEK) in Banyu Asin Regency.
The highway road itself is divided into two sections in which, section I of the Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Batang section stretches for 112 km, then section II of the Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung section, along 77 km.
The Highway Road has 17 bridges, six interchanges and 23 underpasses that will facilitate accessibility and travel to and from Palembang, South Sumatra. Highways with a main track width of 3.6 meters for each lane are equipped with six Highway Gates (GT) namely GT Gunung Batin at KM 26, GT Penggala at KM 43, GT Lambu Kibang at KM 61, GT Way Kenanga at KM 77, GT Simpang Pematang at KM 99, and GT Kayu Agung at KM 188.
